Island Park RV resort is located east of Stirling, Ontario off of Carmel Road. This RV (recreational vehicle) resort is positioned on the Trent River with almost 100 acres of wooded area to explore and has everything you would expect from an RV community including water, hydro, sewage facilities, picnic tables, and even a sandy beach for swimming.
This old wagon is located on the left side just after the main entrance; it’s pretty hard to miss, all alone in the middle of a field.
We just happened upon this farm house while heading to Marmora, Ontario on County Rd. 14 (Stirling-Marmora Road); a round about visit to Callaghan Rapids on the Trent-Severn Waterway.
It’s quite a sight and hard to believe how damaged this home is. Beyond repair, the exterior walls are literally falling down with the ceiling of the back half of the house collapsing. The rear staircase is barely recognizable and leads to a second floor that is no longer present. Remnents of personal belongings are still present, including toys and a children’s story book.
Every time I visit a home like this I’m reminded that at some point in the past; it was a new home. This beautiful specimen of decayism has a history. The clearing of the land; the building materials; its construction; and the families that have lived here over the years.
This home, like its history is decaying and will soon disappear forever.

While on our way to Campbellford to visit the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge we came across this old cube van. I’m always taking the back roads and this one was as back road as it gets. Around half way down the road it started getting pretty rough, narrowing and turning into an ATV trail; my Sunfire couldn’t handle it. The funny thing is, as I was backing out the road; looking for a place to turn around, my wife Irene is the one who actually noticed the beat-up van back in the woods.
